This day was filled with so many mixed emotions, good and not so good... I can't say that I ever want to relive this day other than remembering this is when our precious son, Sam came home to us. What a precious Gift from God! We are sooo blessed in so many ways.
We took a van from Guangzhou to Shenzen (Worrell family and Fink Family) then had to take seperate vans from Shenzen to Hong Kong.. which I was not at all a fan of. Now I see why! We got seperated, I was thinking they (Worrell Family) was in front of us but they got held up at immigration. We were pushing it to make the plane so we busting butt going through the airport just knowing the Worrell family was already on the plane concerned about us. We got on the plane, the Worrell family was not there. Yes i had them hold the plane knowing my friends will soon arrive. When they said they could not hold the plane any longer, I asked them to call to see if they have checked in. They told me they did call, and they had not checked in. Little did I know, they were there but not allowed to check in after a certain time. When the lady came back to tell me that the plane must leave, I have to say (to much shock to those who will read this) I busted out crying! I told the flight attendants that we want off the plane. They would not let us off the plane... Ohhhh I was not a happy camper. My friends are suppose to be on this plane and we are suppose to spend this 15 hours together then say our goodbyes. We did not get to say Goodbye.
The plane takes off... Sam's first plane flight... we are leaving Hong Kong to New Jersey..

Sam's first flight! Brother wanted to help Sam,
comfort him on his first flight |
Sam enjoyed the flight and did really well... however I believe he got up every 30 min to use the restroom.. maybe a little nervous.
We arrived in New Jersey 15 hours later.... 6 hour layover then they posted that our plane was going to 1 hour and 30 min late leaving.
My heart perked up because that meant I may have time to go to another terminal to see my friend arrive, who should have been on the flight with me. We were suppose to leave at 7:05pm and Tracy's plane was going to arrive from San Francisco at 7:30pm... but now.. ummmm. I may get to see my God Given sister arrive and tell her bye as we go our seperate ways (only by distance not in heart), she lives in NJ. I went to ask the flight attendant would I have time to get to the other terminal and back in time for my plane and he said yes. I looked so rough from crying 10 of the 15 hours of the previous flight because I had no idea what happen to my friends. if they were ok, or what happen. ANYWAY,... I headed straight over to the terminal.. and waited.... ans waited and waited... when I thought most people were off the plane I started getting nervous that I missed them. I started asking people, do you know if you had 3 Deaf people on your plane. Can you believe no one knew? REALLY? anyway, finally there comes the georgous Worrell family. I have to say, I hugged them and did not want to let go. I was so thankful to see them and that they were all ok and ready for home. Praise God for my flight that was late leaving, It was a TRUE blessing to tell my sister and her family goodbye,, I say blessing, yes it was but IT HURT SO BAD! So blessed to take this journey with the Worrell family, I love them so much....
Now heading back to our terminal waiting for our plane to leave... here are some pictures of our shy boy... NOT! not a shy bone on his body...
As we wait and wait, it is time to board the plane.. Ready to get home. a very emotional day and also a exciting day to bring Sam our son home. Boarded the plane, Sam has a seat with a lady. Evidentually, Sam did not like her reading a book, he closed it for her. LOL. ofcourse I explained to Sam don't touch other people's belongings, he was starring at at. I explained to her that this is his first day in America, he is harmless (i hope) etc.
20min on the plane we were told the flight has been cancelled due to the lack of pilots. The current pilot had no more hours to fly so they had to cancel.
We got off the plane and had to go to customer service to see if another flight was leaving or if not get a hotel. Chet and Sam were troopers. I could not be more proud of them. They adjusted very well. They played together while Gary and I were ready to get home so kind of not feeling it staying overnight in New Jersey.
We went downstairs to get our luggage, the sweet lady who Sam graciously closed her book gave me this...
A letter she wrote to encourage me. What a gift!
She wrote it, even attached a flower.
How sweet!
Sam has little, very little ASL so he is not understanding all that is going on.
He asked, "fly home?" It broke my heart that we can't fully communicate yet but was encouraged that this young boy went with the flow. I responded, "Yes, tomorrow fly home."
We got a 6:30 am flight out on Sat.
Us going down escalators... Sam did not know how to go down with luggage.. see what he does....
YES he let's the luggage go... haha
just before dad arrives to help him.
Went downstairs of the hotel to eat, and a gentlemen came up and asked if we are on the 6:30am flight leaving Sat morning. He informed us that it too has been cancelled.
WOW!! I just knew when we told Chet that it was not going to be pretty. We are SO proud of that boy, ofcourse he was disappointed but he not once got mad. He is such an AWESOME son!
What's next?
We called United Airlines and got the 9:30am flight and arrived home around 11:45am. WOW..
HOME SWEET HOME
